Tern Bicycles is a relatively young brand launched in 2011, who specialise in folding bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes etc. The company was founded by Joshua Hon, the son of David Hon, who was a major part of the success of Dahon. Tern was created as a separate company focusing on high-performance, innovative, and stylish folding bicycles for city commuters and urban cyclists. Joshua Hon and a group of former Dahon employees launched Tern in 2011 with the aim to produce more premium and innovative folding bikes which led to some legal disputes between Tern and Dahon. The brand is named after the Arctic tern, a bird known for its long migrations and adaptability.

Tern bikes typically have larger wheels (20-24 inches) compared to many traditional folding bikes, making them more stable. They feature stiff aluminum frames, high-quality drivetrains, and quick-folding mechanisms that improve portability and ride quality. The N-Fold technology allows the bikes to fold quickly and compactly. Tern has now expanded into electric bikes, including the Vektron (folding e-bike) and the GSD (a compact, high-capacity cargo e-bike). The GSD and HSD models are particularly popular for carrying heavy loads, making them great for families and businesses.
