This is the longest of a nationwide network of Vía Verdes, otherwise Green Ways, using old train tracks, the Ojos Negros route has 2 stages covering 160km. One is in Teruel province and going through the Sierra Menera, the second descends through the interior of Valencia and eventually down to the sea.

In 2001, the Valencian Regional Government converted the stretch of the ex railway running from Algimia d’Alfara to Barracas into a trail. A similar decision was later taken by the Aragon Regional Government in relation to the stretch of line running within Aragon to the village of Santa Eulalia del Campo.
In 2017, the Valencian Regional Government announced plans to link the Ojos Negros Greenway to Valencia via the extension of the Vía Churra Greenway, running from the Valencia to Sagunto and the village of Albalat dels Tarongers. This should be finished by 2021.
The route of the Ojos Negros rail trail does not fully follow the old railway track all the way because of new buildings and road routes.
The current route is in 2 sections:
Ojos Negros I: this part starts in Algimia de Alfara in Valencia and goes through the towns of Altura, Segorbe, Jérica, Viver and Caudiel. Finishing in Barracas in the province of Castellón before entering Teruel. At around 70 kilometres, this part of the trail ascends around 800 metres, from the Med. to the Meseta Central.
Ojos Negros II: this section of the trail starts in Barracas and passes through Sarrión,the world truffle centre, La Puebla de Valverde, Teruel and Cella, and more eventually finishing in Santa Eulalia del Campo (Teruel). It is 91 kilometres.
In May, 2020 administrative licences were permitted to allow the connection of the Vía Verde de Ojos Negros to the Cantabrian coast.
The Ojos Negros greenway is well signposted along its route. Some of the tunnels on the trail are equipped with lighting although its advisable to take your cycle lights. Mots of the route is fairly flat with an average gradient of 3-5%, and is suitable for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and people with a disability
