Avoiding back injuries and pain.

Lower back pain can be a persistent problem for cyclists especially for the taller rider.

Up to 60% of cyclists have experienced backache or back pain.

Serious cyclists try for a low and streamlined position as possible extending the lower back
for long periods, while jarring jolts are passed up the seatpost causing discomfort and back pain.

Bike set up can be tweaked for more comfort by raising the handlebars and reducing the reach with a shorter
stem will give the back a break.
Move position regularly to relieve tense muscles, get off the saddle and straighten the back. Check your saddle
is not too high – suggested by a rocking motion of the hips – because any loss of stability here will require
the back muscles to work harder.
It can help to avoid putting any extra weight onto the spine by carrying items in the panniers instead of a back pack.

The correct posture will minimise aches and pains.
