Many car drivers think that roads were made for them only, but it was bikers who first lobbied for flat roads over 100 years ago.
Hobbyhorses developed into velocipedes, those evolved into safety bicycles; these bicycles evolved into cars.
To many motorists it is back in the 1800s that bicycles belong. Cars are seen to be modern; cycles are not.
Lots of motorists also assume that roads are for them. In fact, cars are the newest creatures of highways.
The hard, flat road surfaces of today are relatively new. Asphalt surfaces took off in the 1930s. So, are motorists to thank for this smoothness?
Definitely no. The improvement of roads was first petitioned for and paid for by cycling organisations.
In the UK and the US, bikers lobbied for better road surfaces for a full 30 years before motoring organisations did the same. Cyclists were definitely ahead of their time.
It’s now time to turn it back on its head and go back to not just standard bicycles, but eBikes… They are a new form of transport and are not bicycles, or mopeds, they are a unique vehicle opening a new chapter of personal transport which is very enjoyable and efficient.
If you are an employer, think about helping your employees commuting behaviour and help save the world.
