Electric Bikes Care and Maintenance for you.

Just like a regular bike, electric bikes require basic maintenance. Caring for an e-bike is similar to a regular bike.

Battery maintenance

For batteries and there are a few do’s and don’ts. If storing your battery, it needs to be kept between 1 to 39 degrees or this will cause damage to the battery. It is important to keep this in mind if you store your bike in a garage or shed over the winter. An simple solution is to take off the battery and store it indoors. If storing your bike for a long period of time you should charge the battery every 3 months.

Motor

Most motors are sealed and do not require servicing so there’s almost no maintenance. You don’t have a bottom bracket bearing like a normal bike, so one less thing to service. The motor should be serviced by your electric bike shop when you take it in for its regular checkup.

Controller and display

A tip from Raleigh mechanics is to use an air duster to clean any dust and dirt from behind the buttons on the controller and display.

Keeping your ebike clean

Clean your bike after a long muddy ride, simply hose down, avoiding electrical components, although these are water resistant you cant be too careful.   Avoid using a jet washer

Tyre pressure

It is important to check your tyre pressures before venturing out on any ride no matter what the distance.

Gear and brake adjustment

Over periods of time gear and brake cables will stretch so they will need adjustment; you can adjust them your self but advise taking your bike into your local dealer as they will offer to do this as part of a service.
