Tour de Yorkshire, Spectator and Travel Information

Making your way to spectate

The Tour de Yorkshire will be back to the region once again. Doncaster is hosting Stage 1 of the Men’s race on Thursday 2 May and Barnsley holding the  stage for the Women’s Stage 1 and Men’s Stage 2 start on Friday 3 May.

Spectators can watch the event at no charge anywhere along the route, but the start, hill climbs and finishes  being the most popular.

Thousands of spectators are due to line the streets, so allow plenty of extra journey time and plan your route ahead.

On Thursday 2 May, the first Stage of the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire race begins in Doncaster in the  market square, moving out past Mansion House, Christ Church and St George’s bridge along the A19 to finish in Selby so completing the 189km stretch of Stage 1.

On Friday 3 May, Stage 1 of the Women’s race will set off outside Barnsley Town Hall at 09:05am with Stage 2 of the Men’s race  at 2.45pm. The cyclists will leave Barnsley to the villages of Mapplewell and Royston, heading to Pontefract and on to Bedale for the exciting sprint finish.

Plan your journey:

With thousands of spectators attending the route, your journey time will take far longer than a normal day and may take a different route than usual.

Get travel times including disruptions:

Be aware of services and probable road closures:

Roads closures are required to allow for organised events and larger crowds in key areas, for the route to be prepared, infrastructure to be put in place and taken away afterwards, the Tour’s own vehicles and the race itself, and the safe dispersal of spectators. Road closures are expected in Barnsley and Doncaster . Most of the affected roads will only be closed for under 1 hour.

Taking Cycles on public transport:

Please be aware that bicycles are not allowed on South Yorkshire tram or bus services. Limited cycle space will be however  available on trains.

Take waterproof clothing!

Have a happy and enjoyable event.
