The Netherlands is the perfect place to cycle. Nowhere in the world caters better for cyclists than the Netherlands which is understandable seeing as the country has more bikes than people ! The country has mile upon mile of cycle paths and signposted cycle routes (around 32000km) and generally its flat meaning almost any bike is suitable for cycling in the Netherlands. You dont need a low geared mountain bike !
The Dutch infrastructure is geared to the cyclist even more than the motorist. Many roads have separate, dedicated cycle lanes, cyclists often have their own crossings and traffic lights.
