Texel National Park Holland Cycling. Texel is an island, accessed by the ferry from Den Helder. There are no bridges to the island so the ferry is the only way to reach it. The ferry takes you to Het Horntje on the island. Den Helder is in the province of Noord-Holland. The ferry can be accessed by car, bike or foot.

Cycling alongside the magnificent coastline is so enjoyable and is actually possible to cycle the island’s western shore in one day. It is an area of astounding beauty, and the region is mostly protected as a national park and subject to regular maintenance. It is one of the most biologically diverse landscapes in Holland. If you want to cycle further, a full ride of the island is possible by cycling eastwards beyond Texel’s dunes.

This trail takes you to the north part of the Wadden Island of Texel. The beaches here are very popular,and so are the nature reserves and rich coastal natural wildlife. You must not miss the Dunes of Texel National Park and the Wadden Sea, which became a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2009.

This route takes you from the seaside village De Koog, via the old Waal en Burgerdijk and the village De Waal, towards the east coast. You can now bike ride along the dyke to Eierland lighthouse which is on the northernmost part of the island. Ypu will pass through the quaint village of Oosterend and the nature areas Zandkes, Utopia, De Schorren and Robbenjager. You are able to ride through of Dunes of Texel National Park, passing the unique nature reserve of De Slufter and then back to De Koog.

This route can be combined with the Texel South Cycle Route, giving you a 56 km-trip around the entire island of Texel.
