The wealthy of the Dutch Golden Age built their large country mansions on the River Vecht, near the numerous dairy farms and windmills. The country lanes on both sides of the river are simply ideal for cycling, travelling through leafy, green, Dutch landscapes. For an incredibly quiet experience the cycle path along the gorgeous River Vecht winds its way between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The river flows past seven beautiful towns and amazing Dutch landscapes. The country lanes along both sides of the river cannot be bettered for cycling.
The 35km route between Weesp and Utrecht, offers sensational views of the Dutch countryside; many country mansions to see, castlesof splendour, and of course Dutch windmills windmills. For a refreshment break you can stop for meals in Breukelen; thats where Brooklyn USA got its name from. The final stretch of the route is the Oudegracht, or “old canal”. The canal runs through the center of Utrecht and is known to be one of the most scenic canals in the Netherlands.
